Dear Scott,
Yeah, I agree with you. I find it satisfying at the end of the story, even if Beowulf was dead in the end. I like the way the author tell the story and its ending. If the author made Beowulf won in the battle with the dragon, bringing peace again to his kingdom, and reigned until his natural death, then it is a bit plain and boring. However, the author made Beowulf died at the battle with running out all his energy power as well as bearing his duty in mind until his last breath. It presents how a great king he really was. He gave his life to his people and his land. Although the author didn't mention what it is like while the 50-year reign, but we can have a image in our mind that it must be truely wonderful. It is a touching and strong ending. LOVE IT :)
Sincere,
Arisa
